Beautiful Shimpaku Juniper Large Specimen Bonsai Tree

This is a very old and fantastic Shimpaku Juniper bonsai tree. Imported from Japan this year (2016). Styled by Harrington (Bonsai4me) & myself in Autumn 2016. The work completed took nearly 30 hours all in all. The trunk was cleaned up removing the old flaky bark, the foliage was thinned and every branch was wired, placed and fanned out into hand shaped pads to encourage back budding. Over the next few seasons the foliage pads can be refined to make wedge shapes to complete the design. Keeping the bottoms of the pads as flat as possible will also help to refine the image further. We would recommend allowing the tree to have a long rest period as the work completed was quite intense. This will allow the tree to recover and gain vigour. The tree is fully wired and that should be left on as long as possible to set the branches in place. As such you should be familiar with removing wire from bonsai trees if you buy this tree. There isn't a set amount of time that wire should be left on a tree but it should be left on as long as possible without damaging the branches and without cutting in too much. The tree should be inspected regular and remove the wire piece meal, a bit at a time as it starts to tighten to each branch. Generally the thinner branches will thicken quicker than the thicker ones so you should keep an eye on those ones first. The tree has a great shaped trunk & nice balance with an incredible nebari and a stunning shari that runs up from the front through to the back side of the tree. Branch placement is also great.

This is a rare opportunity to own a nearly completed bonsai tree styled by a renowned and well known bonsai artist. Not many trees like this come onto the market and when they do they are usually unstyled raw material. We understand not everybody has the eye to complete a tree like this from raw material. More people tend to have a better eye for refining a tree further after an initial styling like this one.

We have some pictures of the tree before the work was completed so if you would like to see them or if you have any more questions about the tree please get in touch with us at

This tree sits about 32 inches (81cm) above its pot and is about 27 inches (69cm) wide. The nebari is about 11 inches (28cm) at it's thickest point. The pot measures 18x5 inches (46x13cm)

PLEASE NOTE - This tree is for collection only.

Cultivation Notes

- This Outdoor bonsai tree needs to be placed outside all year round. It needs the cold of winter to become dormant and have a rest period.

- This bonsai likes to be kept a little drier than some other species. Allow pot to dry somewhat between watering and never keep too wet.

- This is an evergreen bonsai meaning it doesn't shed all of its leaves during the winter months.

- September / October White Pine Bonsai shed previous years needles. They turn yellow and fall. this is perfectly normal and a good tine to give the bonsai tree a clean up. Only worry if needles on the tips of branches turn yellow! Previous years needles are further back on the branches.

- This bonsai is frost hardy
